NIESV President Charges Associates On Professionalism and Ethics
The President of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), Johnbull Amayaevbo, has charged newly inducted associates of the institution to be professional and ethical in their conduct in order to remain competent and relevant in the profession.
The president, who spoke during the induction of 548 Associates on Wednesday, urged the inductees to train and retrain themselves in order to remain relevant and successful in the profession.
He said, "It is required of you to acquaint yourselves with current developments in the industry if you are to remain competent and relevant. You must keep upgrading and expanding your professional prowess through training and retraining."
"The council has for this purpose put in place a platform for Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programmes (MCPD) held at the national level and in all the branches at different times. It will enhance your competence and professionalism if you key into these training programmes, seminars, workshops and conferences."
He also implored the inductees to be loyal to the institution just as they strictly adhered to professional ethics and conduct.
The guest speaker at the event, Mr Ubong Essien, tasked the NIESV to set high standards as it aimed to achieve excellence.
Essien, who spoke on the topic: "The Challenge to Perform", said for the NIESV members to achieve excellence they must ensure their attributes and attitude to their professional practice were harmonised.
He said, "Attributes give one a sense of entitlement. The right attitude is what can take one to the height of their profession. Attributes without attitude are nothing. Your attitude has to be in sync with your attributes for you to achieve excellence and climb to the pinnacle of your profession."
