Courtesy Visit and Strategic Engagement
The Advocacy drive of the administration got a great leap forward on Thursday, September 8, 2022, with the visit of The Council, led by the President, ESV Johnbull Amayaevbo, PNIVS, to the Executive Secretary of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, Ambassador Shuaibu Adamu Ahmed at the head office of the Council in Lagos.
In his address at the courtesy visit, President pledged the support of the Institution for the Financial Reporting Council in its mission to ensure financial responsibility in the corporate world of Nigeria, to integrate the financial and valuation standards among Professionals, and to place the Nigerian economy within the best global practices for both the accounting and valuation standard sustenance.
President used the opportunity to request for the immediate establishment of the Directorate of Valuation as provided in the Act setting up the Council, emphasizing that the functionality of the Directorate will speedily address the issue of non or partial compliance with the Valuation Standards by Financial Reporting Entities, while also enhancing the performance of the Council, by making it one of the vibrant regulating arms in the financial sector. He noted that the activities of the Directorate cut across the entire real estate sector, which is a significant contributor to the economy.
He pledges the support of the Institution in all its ramifications for the creation and the take-off of the Directorate.
President also requested for recruitment of capable and dedicated personnel into the Directorate and went ahead to suggest that the representative of the Institution in the Board’s Council, ESV (Prof.) Tolulope Ajayi, FNIVS should engage midwives and drive the Directorate to the limelight.
President reminded the Executive Secretary that the Council needs more sensitization of the stakeholders on its activities and services to reach its target audience effectively. Robust collaboration, the institutionalization of a highly impactful Advocacy drive, in addition to seminar/workshop and conference with the support of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, Estate Surveyor and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria, International Valuation Standard Council, National Insurance Commission, and other Professional Bodies would be a roadmap towards achieving the goal.
Responding, the Executive Secretary of FRCN, Ambassador Shuabu Ahmed, promised that the Directorate of Valuation should be set up before the end of the year
Towards that, he pleaded with the Institution to ensure that competent members are provided to run the Directorate.
He also welcomes the suggestion of organising a workshop with the Institution. He suggested that the workshop should hold before the end of the year.
A joint committee was set up to look into all areas of collaboration.
